As you can see from the German on the package label above, these nipples are manufactured in Germany and designed primarily for the European market. They cannot even be purchased in US Retail stores. They have the same NUK shape popular in the US but they do not have the flange that US nipples commonly have to allow insertion inside the bottle ring. Because they have no holes they are called "blind nipples". They are designed to perfectly fit most US style bottles, including the ones you have just purchased so aside from inserting a hole these nipples do not need to be trimmed or modified in any way.
How to put a hole in a blind nipple
1. Use a needle in diameter approximately the same size as the hole you desire.
2. Heat the tip of the needle in flame until very hot. Make sure to keep the needle in the flame for at east one minute until it is red hot. This will ensure that the natural carbon forming on the needle when inserted in the flame will be burned off. If not, this will make a black mark on the nipple that is nearly impossible to remove.
3. Remove the needle from the flame and immediately insert in the nipple at the desired spot.
4. Push the needle in and out a few times to make sure the hole is properly through the nipple.
5. Repeat procedure with larger needle if whole is too small.
Placing the nipple onto the bottle
1. Remove the standard nipple from the bottle ring.
2. Place the bottle ring onto an empty baby bottle and twist until firmly closed.
3. Slide the nipple over the outside of the bottle ring until the nipple entirely covers the ring.
4. Inside the nipple is a rubber lip that will catch the plastic lip under the bottle ring. This ensures the nipple is securely fastened and that there is a leak proof seal.
